Morgan Jones

Hiya! I’m Morgan. I am a 17 year old software developer, UI/UX designer, writer (kinda), and all-around nerd. But I’m not just that. Here, I’d like a second to talk a bit about who I am outside of the tech world.

My Job

Currently, I work as a Sandwich Artist at Subway. I began working there in March 2024. I enjoy the job, and I love the people I work with. My managers are great, and I have fun working there!

Future Aspirations

Surprisingly, the job I am looking at next isn’t in the tech industry! There is a role at my local council called a Streetscene Operative. One of my friends currently works there, and after hearing his stories, it sounds like a job I would enjoy! As much as I do enjoy Subway, I am excited at the idea of this switch at some point in the distant future.

I do think that, at some point in the future, I would like to work in tech. Me and a friend have been passively theorising about a project. I won’t give away too much, as we’re not sure where this will go, but it’s a modern RSS feed reader for mobile and desktop. Chances are, it’ll become an open-source project, but we’re not sure yet.

I may also look at a pre-existing role in the tech industry. I’m not sure where yet, and that’s why I’m taking my time and expanding my abilities in different areas, including learning Rust to get more used to lower-level programming.

I have been interested in working on Apple’s design team for quite some time now. I really like the products they design, and I would love to be involved in the process, both in physical products and software, such as iOS and macOS.

My Hobbies

I have some hobbies that I enjoy doing in my free time. Some of them are related to tech, and others aren’t.

Gaming

I don’t play games much, but when I do, I enjoy playing story-driven games. I am playing through the Yakuza/Like a Dragon game series at the moment (I’ve finished Yakuza 6, so no spoilers! 🫣). I am also interested in playing the Persona series, as I have heard some amazing reviews.

Anime

I enjoy watching anime from time-to-time, usually with a friend. I have finished watching School Days, and I’m currently going through Initial D and You’re Under Arrest. I have watched a few episodes of Neon Genesis Evangelion, which I really need to get back into. I have a massive list of other anime I need to watch.

Writing

I don’t write often; it’s a newer hobby of mine, but I like to write blog posts on this website. They’re professional… sometimes. They’re usually just ramblings and rants about new things I’ve discovered, reviews of different things, shower thoughts, things that bug me, etc. Nothing written in them is meant to be taken seriously, and I don’t fully expect people to read them. I just enjoy writing them!

Music

Listening, not creating. I’d love to create music; I just need to find the time to dedicate myself to the craft. I listen to a very wide range of music, and I love it. My library is, at the time of writing, 10,589 songs in size. 113GB, according to Apple Music. Have I listened to all of them? God, no, not yet. I’ve got a whole system in place, which you can read about here, which helps me organise my library.

I’m a total neat freak when it comes to my music. It’s all gotta have the right titles, artists, album art, genre, be put in the correct playlists, etc. If it’s not right, I’m not happy.

I’d like to go a step even further and start self-hosting my own Subsonic music server at some point in the future to host CD rips.

I also have a couple of vinyl records… no record player though. I have Hybrid Theory by LINKIN PARK and Found Heaven by Conan Gray (see what I meant by a “wide range of music”?) currently, and I would love to expand my collection. And maybe actually get a record player.

Cars

This is a more recent interest of mine, and I’m not particularly knowledgeable in this space at the moment, but I love it nonetheless.

Thanks to my best friend, I got into cars about a year ago. I’m learning more and more about them, and it’s a really interesting space to be in online! I can’t drive yet, unfortunately, but I can’t wait. I’m currently trying to afford driving lessons, which, here in the UK, aren’t cheap. (I’m going to be really cheeky and ask you to support me on Ko-Fi if you enjoy my content! It would really help me afford these lessons.)

Not long ago, I discovered the Mazda MX-5, Miata, or whatever you want to call it. I think I’m in love. How a car can be so small and so fun to drive is completely beyond me. My favourite models are definitely the NA and the ND, of course. I’d love to own one of each generation, but we’ll have to see where life takes me first.

I have started attending MX-5 meets with my friend who owns an NA, and they’re so much fun! I’ve only gone to one, but I’ve met incredible people, and I can’t wait to go to more in the future.

I really hope you enjoyed reading this page about me. Employers, I know this isn’t a traditional “About Me,” but I hope you enjoyed reading it. I’m a person! Just like you. I have interests and hobbies outside of the tech realm.

I’m not just here for tech; I’m in for finding a lifelong career that I will enjoy! Maybe I won’t ever work in tech; who knows? I’m here to find out where life takes me, and I’m excited for the ride.
